Midnight Trek, The Plod, Cotswold Way

Back in June this year, on June 11th 2016 to be precise, on the stroke of midnight, four intrepid 7 Layer explorers set out for a team challenge of epic proportion.WP_20160611_22_09_46_Pro (002)

Armed with a torch, a map, their trusty hiking shoes and each other for company, they set off across the Cotswold Way to trudge a gruelling 40 miles and, in so doing, earnt a staggering £2,278 for charity. Not for the faint hearted, the lads had painstakingly trained together in the lead up to the challenge, slowly increasing not only the duration but also the incline to prepare themselves for the dizzy heights of the cheese rolling venue and Cleeve Hill. They probably did not bargain for how tough it would be, but valiantly soldiered on, supported by two of the team members’ wives and 7 Layer MD Lee Maisner and his family.

They really bonded well as a team and stoically completed the challenge in a very impressive 15 hours, coming in a highly respectable 2nd place from a total of 26 teams who participated.

Their fund raising efforts in the lead up were well attended by staff, family and friends alike. They included:

  • Charity betting during the Gold Cup
  • Lawn and BBQ party (at Phil’s house) – paid entry towards the above total
  • Themed Fancy dress day
  • Bake/Sell cake day
  • Pub Quiz
